Old Projects

Once upon a time when I used my sewing machine, I made these......

The first (and ugliest) doll I made. I call him Octopoddy. I really liked the flower detail on the top, but the eyes... they're scary... and so is the mouth. I didn't know what I was doing. Originally he was supposed to be a cupcake, but I failed because he like a looked retarded white blob sitting on an upside-down hat-looking cup. Nope, no cupcake there.

 Next up....

Peapoddies!! These were made for Janet as she requested. I did add some more finishing touches, but I'm too lazy to go into her room to take pictures. ;)

Next is...

... my little mini bunny! He came out to be about 2 or 3 inches tall. Isn't he the cutest?? He was upcycled from an old vest that I used to have and I just love how he turned out. This was made for my oldest sister, Pauline.

I also attempted to make a bigger version...

Somewhere along the line, I messed up big time (probably cause I thought I could wing the pattern like I did for the other three). Big mistake. The body was a complete flop and un-proportionate to its head. Then... I ran out of fleece.. so I just gave up. This bunny is still lying around in my room. This was supposed to be a bunny part two for my oldest sister,  but I never gave it to her since I never finished it.

After that flop, I moved on to crochet. My first project came out very well..

A little kitty!! AHHH! The cuteness!!! It's on par as it is with the mini bunny wouldn't you say? Don't you wanna keep it all for yourself? I do, but I've given all my kitties away :( I want an army in the near future though. They take some time to make though cause they're just so tiny! Well worth the effort though!

Next up...

My trio of ninjas! These were made for my boyfriend. Some came out better than others..  I mean I've made them before, back when I made the kitty. I wanted to make some variations to it to see how it would look. First, for the blue ninja, I used another type of yarn. He turned out just fine, except that I didn't realize I was showing the wrong side of the work. Whoops. I'm sure he would have looked better if I had known. Oh well! Second, the white ninja. A bit creepy. I guess should have added another color. He just looks like a mummy. Again, I was making alterations to the pattern, which didn't go too well (hence, the messed up jaw). Finally, I remastered the pattern. The black ninja is how it's supposed to look. The pattern for this ninja was obtained from a book called Crobots by Nelly Pailloux if you're interested! You can't find it at your local bookstore, you find it at Amazon.

One of these days I'm gonna make some bombermen!

And yes, I have pink bedsheets. :)

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!!

Busy week!

It's been a super busy week at work. I really hate the commuting because I've been leaving work around 6:30 - 6:45, but I've been getting home close to 8! Gotta love NYC transit traffic!! Can my company please move to Long Island City already?! On top of that, I've been so tired because here I am, up past 12:30 in the morning, writing on my blog. Yay me!

Anyway, I haven't really been working on much lately. I was trying to make a fuzzy amigurumi, but that isn't turning out too well. Maybe it's too early to tell? Oh well. Experimenting is always fun. Too bad it required my very expensive wool yarn at $8 for 50g! :(

On the bright side, I finally signed up for an Etsy account. Hopefully that will go well! I finally have the store policy, profile and other miscellaneous stuff down. The link will be provided shortly.... orrrr as soon as I post something for sale. Need to design the logo, avatar, etc first. Don't want to show off an empty page now ;)

So I really just wanted to add a few photos of my past work so my page doesn't look so sparse, but I think I will have to do that tomorrow cause it's getting a bit late. I should sign up for Flicker while I'm at it, huh?

Stay tuned for pictures tomorrow!

Project: Crochet Bear

I'm back! (Yay! I'm updating already!!)

I just finished this gray bear for my oldest sister yesterday:

If I combined all the time it took me to make him it would probably be a crazy 5 hours!! I know it sounds like a lot of time, but it actually isn't too bad considering I created the pattern myself. I was having trouble with the snout and ears so I don't know if it's just me, but I hope he doesn't look too much like a mouse! The problem with the ears is that if you make them too big, it will look more like a mouse. If you make it too small, it looks a little weird. See the dilemma? Ohhhh well! I think it came out pretty well for my first bear (and self-created pattern).

Not sure what is going to be next, but keep posted. I bought TON of craft supplies today!! :D I'm missing one ingredient (tempera paint... where do I find that?!) to a project that I really wanted to start but I guess that will have to wait. Sooooo, I am most likely going to make another bear because I promised my other sister that I would make her one with a crown. I have four sisters by the way AND a very demanding niece and nephew, so I'm going to be a pretty busy person since everyone wants a little bit of something! ;)

Hello all!

Welcome to Crafts by Debbie! All things here are and will be completely handmade by me!

I've always had a crafty side in me, but it wasn't until I was laid off in August 2009 that gave me an opportunity to actually explore my potential. Since I just graduated and had nothing else to do but look for jobs, it was the perfect time to learn a bit about what I thought was interesting and fun.

Currently, my hobbies consist only of, crochet. Specifically, I like amigurumi, which is a super cute Japanese art that involves crocheting in circles. Sad. I know, but it's the only thing I've managed to get a firm grasp on these past months. I do plan on expanding my skills though. I'm starting to look into clay/model/jewelry making and will eventually try anything else that piques my interest. I've tried sewing and that didn't go too well, but I do intend on giving it another try.

So yeah. That's me in a nutshell. Or my skills, really..

Now, although I would love to update this blog frequently, realistically speaking, due to my job, school/studying (I'll be starting my second bachelor's this summer which means I'll have even less time! *siiigh), sleeping, commuting and seeing my boyfriend/hanging out or spending time with family, the very little time that I have in-between will be dedicated to crafting and blogging. So, this blog will be probably be updated very, very sporadically. I will try my best to update it on a monthly basis though!

Thank you for reading!
