Project: Crochet Champeroni!

Soo juggling school, going to work, playing on my free time and crafting whenever possible is really tough! It took me a whole month to finish this guy, which is way longer than I had hoped. I'm not sure how I feel about amigurumis with a lot of attachments. It takes a really long time to make the appendages and even longer to sew them to the body. I don't know if it's really worth the time. For example, this dog probably took me around 4 hours to make.

Really cute huh? Sure, but if you had to make 8 pieces for his legs, 2 pieces for his ears and one more piece to his tail, I don't know how you would feel.

Yeah..... He's still cute, but a realllll pain to make.

He's cute in real life too! This little guy was made for my boss, whose birthday is this Wednesday. Here's Champ!!

Keep crafting! :)

I wish there were more hours in a day

I had two back-to-back exams last Wednesday so I was really drained last week. Fortunately, I didn't have any school this Monday (Christopher Columbus Day). Being able to have a few days off from school without having to catch up on reading/homework/exams is so relaxing! On top of that, I got a 93 and a 102.5 Everything is looking good! :)

I even had time to get started on a project that I'm making for my boss's birthday. It's another dog, but a different version. Now that I think about it though, I don't even remember if I ever posted up the first one? Oh well. If I didn't it looks just like the white kitty I made, but as a dog.

Hopefully, by the end of this week, I will have finished it.

Already the end of September

Is it just me, or did the month go by really fast?

I was able to get off work early today which was great because I am reminded of how GREAT it is to have free time. I really wish it would stop raining though. It's such a drag and makes me feel gloomy. Anyway, for those of you who do not know, I work full time and I'm taking two classes per semester right now (just started this semester). I actually have two tests coming up on the 6th, but it has been a really long time since I've been able to settle down, relax and write in my blog. One entry won't hurt right?? So much for blogging every once in a while

It's amazing how fast life passes by as you get older. I remember thinking how long I thought summer was when I was younger. Boy, I was such a silly kid. I'd take those summers back any day.

Anyway, that's my rant for the day. Keep on crafting!

Project: Crochet Bunny

Bunny bun bun,

I know it has been a while since I last updated. I've been super busy with work and on top of that, class started so I won't have too much spare time to craft. Since I won't have a whole lot of time to update, I will do my best in writing a little something here and there whether it is a daily rant, a helpful hint, or a mini project?

That being said, please feel free to post comments and I will do my best to answer them! :)

Anyway, I just noticed that I haven't posted up this cute little bunny that I made a few weeks (or months?) ago. I don't exactly know what was holding me up, but here it is now!

Cute? I hope you liked it!

Project: Crochet Luffy (One Piece)

Looks like I'm doing alright in keeping up with my blog. It has only been 5 days since my last post!

Anyway, not much has been new. I've been extremely busy at work. There's so much to do, but so little time! On top of that, school is going to start soon for me, which means I won't have much time to craft anymore.. :(

So I'm trying to make use of my time as much as possible and decided to make my boyfriend a complete set of One Piece characters! It's one of his favorite manga/anime series, so I'm sure he'll love them! First up is Luffy, the leader of the crew!!

First human! Not too bad, right? What do you think? I hope you like him! Sanji is next!

Stay tuned!

Prototype: Crochet Sackboy (Little Big Planet)

Ok... it hasn't been too long since I last updated, which is good! I finished Sackboy finally! He has probably been sitting around my room for a month or more... I know. One of the reasons for the delay is because I'm actually not too crazy about this one because I was making him off the top of my head. Since I never played Little Big Planet and was making this on the train, I didn't realize the picture I had in my head was wrong. On top of that, was he always knitted??? Whoops. I don't really know how to knit so he looks a bit different. Oh well! It is just a prototype after all right? (Actually almost everything here is!! hah!)

Here he is!!

So the differences are.... He actually has stumps for feet instead of actual feet. His eyes are felt instead of buttons. His zipper is gray, not white (in my defense, I didn't have any gray felt). His head is not round. He's supposed to be knit, not crocheted. His body is more cylinder, not body-shaped... and I didn't add any stitch detail.

Pretty much everything is wrong huh??

This is how Sackboy is supposed to know for those who are curious and do not know:
Isn't he so cute?! Too bad I butchered him! Maybe when I'm feeling up for it again, I'll try him again.

Facebook Fan Page

So, I started a Facebook fan page a while back, but got too lazy to actually do anything with it. I finally set it all up today, but I still need to figure out what to do with it. I'm hoping it will help me generate some traffic to my blog and maybe even get some followers.

Just in case you were wondering, the link to my fan page is here.

Now, I'm one more step closer to getting some products out and ready for sale. I'm still in the process of establishing myself and experimenting with crochet. It will definitely be a busy time for me this year and next. I have not yet set foot into any of the craft-oriented communities yet, but I do plan on doing so. In addition, I  probably won't be selling anything until later this year, or until I am more confident of my work. Constructive feedback is very welcome at this point. I would love to hear what you like or dislike.

Anyways, I have a lot of works in progress, and I still have not forgotten about my last post. It is getting pretty late, so I will work on that last project I was talking about tomorrow. I have a few other things that are almost ready for posting!

Stay tuned! More good stuff are in production!

So I've decided to give sewing another chance...

... because I gave crochet another chance after years of neglect.

It would be unbelievably awesome if I can sew as well as I crochet! This way, I can spare myself the headache from finding clothes that I like and clothes that fit and look good on me. Wishful thinking, I know... but I like to be optimistic about it :)

Anyway, here are some fun pictures!

For my oldest sister. And yes, I make her a lot of bears! It looks similar to the first one.. but the head is actually smaller and it's really, really tiny. Like tiny as in 1.5 inches short.

Next up are my beloved chickies!

Hehehehehe. They're just so much fun to play with.

Yes. I know. Nothing new. You've already seen them...  but they're just TOO FREAKING CUTE!! Just looking at them makes me happy. I'm making a whole army by the way. Yes. It will be amazing. They are already prepared as I type this. All I need to do is cut out their eyes, beaks, cheeks, and feet, then glue it on and they'll be done!

......... Oh, but I did forget to mention that I hate doing that part. I've been putting it off for a long time. Like... I think I have 20 of the balls ready to be assembled long. *Siiiiigh* Maybe tomorrow. If I do get to that tomorrow, I will have another surprise!

*Hint: He's brown, small and has fingers.

That's all for today! Thanks for reading!

Project: Crochet Swan

You know what kind of noise swans make? .... It sounds quite unpleasant. Next time when you see them, listen and think of me. :D

ANYWAY, I keep forgetting to update this account because I'm too lazy to write. Soooo.. I've decided to bombard you all with pictures instead! Yay! Pictures! :)

I didn't use any patterns to make this. It was made on a whim and I pretty much just used whatever instinct I had for amigurumi. I think it turned out really well for the first try! It's a shame that I did not have any scrap paper or anything to record the pattern because how am I supposed to make it's mate now?? Oh well. I'll just have to try it again. The hassles of making things on the train. My bag just isn't big enough!

I have a few more things that are in progress so be patient and I'll update again... when I remember to. =P

Btw, why doesn't Blogger have any emoticons? It really should! >=(

What happened to my blog?

Wait, what? I have a blog? Uhh yeahh.... So I've been a bit busy at work..
.... and super lazy with crafting. Whoops.

Gotta get back into the mode! I have SO many unfinished projects going on and it's not even funny. Ever heard of Little Big Planet? I have two bodies of Sackboy that are lying around without any limbs or facial features.. I also have like 3 blue bears that have been lying around for months (again without any limbs). I still have that whale that I mentioned a while back that I never finished and a bunch of other things. Oh, and I just started crocheting up a swan (not turning out that well though). Ugh. What is wrong with me?? I've got to finish some of those things!!

Yeah..... I really hate making those small, tiny appendages as you can see. My solution? I try to pick things that don't require too many attachments. See my last post as an example. :)

Anyways, I forgot to mention that I've joined deviantArt like a month or so ago. In case you don't know what that is, it's a site for amateur artists. It's a really awesome site. Great for inspiration and you get to see a really good mix of artwork by very talented (and not so talented) people.

I did make something a while back that I promised to post up, but never remembered to.

Here's the squid I was talking about! Waaaaaay overdue, but still cute! :D

Projects: Crochet Chick and Kitty Cat

I kept myself really busy this weekend and made a few patterns. One kitty and one chickie. I was also working on some patterns last Friday (a jellyfish and a whale) which oddly enough, I did not finish. I'm almost done with them though! More than half way there!

Anyway, just thought I'd post up some new things :)

Ta daaaaa! Don't you love them? I do ♥

I'll try updating more often!

First commission!!

So.. I'm waaaaaay overdue! Sorry!! I haven't really had that much time to update my blog.

A lot of things have been going on. I've been training for my new position cause I got the bookkeeper job! Yay!! Well, it's not official yet, but I'm doing just fine for my first week. I also picked up new materials for a new hobby which is... Beading! I'm actually having a bit of trouble with t though...

So since it's been a while, this update can't be considered an update without a new creation.
Here's my new little bear!!

Thanks for reading!

Work, work, work

I've been soo busy at work! Though I'm always falling asleep on the train now and I'm really tired by the time I get home, it's a good thing. I feel like I'm learning a lot and getting a lot of experience. Also, the days go by really fast when you're busy. I just have to remember to take a breather every once in a while.

I'm looking forward to going back to school. Can't wait to hit the books. Not too thrilled about going to school AND working though. I'll have so many things on my plate, so it might be a little intimidating. I haven't even had any time to crochet or do anything crafty!! It's so sad :(

Oh well. I will need to work on my time management. I've never been good at that, but I need to go to sleep earlier! I would start going to sleep earlier today, but I have some homework to do that my boss assigned me to. Haha.

Old Projects

Once upon a time when I used my sewing machine, I made these......

The first (and ugliest) doll I made. I call him Octopoddy. I really liked the flower detail on the top, but the eyes... they're scary... and so is the mouth. I didn't know what I was doing. Originally he was supposed to be a cupcake, but I failed because he like a looked retarded white blob sitting on an upside-down hat-looking cup. Nope, no cupcake there.

 Next up....

Peapoddies!! These were made for Janet as she requested. I did add some more finishing touches, but I'm too lazy to go into her room to take pictures. ;)

Next is...

... my little mini bunny! He came out to be about 2 or 3 inches tall. Isn't he the cutest?? He was upcycled from an old vest that I used to have and I just love how he turned out. This was made for my oldest sister, Pauline.

I also attempted to make a bigger version...

Somewhere along the line, I messed up big time (probably cause I thought I could wing the pattern like I did for the other three). Big mistake. The body was a complete flop and un-proportionate to its head. Then... I ran out of fleece.. so I just gave up. This bunny is still lying around in my room. This was supposed to be a bunny part two for my oldest sister,  but I never gave it to her since I never finished it.

After that flop, I moved on to crochet. My first project came out very well..

A little kitty!! AHHH! The cuteness!!! It's on par as it is with the mini bunny wouldn't you say? Don't you wanna keep it all for yourself? I do, but I've given all my kitties away :( I want an army in the near future though. They take some time to make though cause they're just so tiny! Well worth the effort though!

Next up...

My trio of ninjas! These were made for my boyfriend. Some came out better than others..  I mean I've made them before, back when I made the kitty. I wanted to make some variations to it to see how it would look. First, for the blue ninja, I used another type of yarn. He turned out just fine, except that I didn't realize I was showing the wrong side of the work. Whoops. I'm sure he would have looked better if I had known. Oh well! Second, the white ninja. A bit creepy. I guess should have added another color. He just looks like a mummy. Again, I was making alterations to the pattern, which didn't go too well (hence, the messed up jaw). Finally, I remastered the pattern. The black ninja is how it's supposed to look. The pattern for this ninja was obtained from a book called Crobots by Nelly Pailloux if you're interested! You can't find it at your local bookstore, you find it at Amazon.

One of these days I'm gonna make some bombermen!

And yes, I have pink bedsheets. :)

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!!

Busy week!

It's been a super busy week at work. I really hate the commuting because I've been leaving work around 6:30 - 6:45, but I've been getting home close to 8! Gotta love NYC transit traffic!! Can my company please move to Long Island City already?! On top of that, I've been so tired because here I am, up past 12:30 in the morning, writing on my blog. Yay me!

Anyway, I haven't really been working on much lately. I was trying to make a fuzzy amigurumi, but that isn't turning out too well. Maybe it's too early to tell? Oh well. Experimenting is always fun. Too bad it required my very expensive wool yarn at $8 for 50g! :(

On the bright side, I finally signed up for an Etsy account. Hopefully that will go well! I finally have the store policy, profile and other miscellaneous stuff down. The link will be provided shortly.... orrrr as soon as I post something for sale. Need to design the logo, avatar, etc first. Don't want to show off an empty page now ;)

So I really just wanted to add a few photos of my past work so my page doesn't look so sparse, but I think I will have to do that tomorrow cause it's getting a bit late. I should sign up for Flicker while I'm at it, huh?

Stay tuned for pictures tomorrow!

Project: Crochet Bear

I'm back! (Yay! I'm updating already!!)

I just finished this gray bear for my oldest sister yesterday:

If I combined all the time it took me to make him it would probably be a crazy 5 hours!! I know it sounds like a lot of time, but it actually isn't too bad considering I created the pattern myself. I was having trouble with the snout and ears so I don't know if it's just me, but I hope he doesn't look too much like a mouse! The problem with the ears is that if you make them too big, it will look more like a mouse. If you make it too small, it looks a little weird. See the dilemma? Ohhhh well! I think it came out pretty well for my first bear (and self-created pattern).

Not sure what is going to be next, but keep posted. I bought TON of craft supplies today!! :D I'm missing one ingredient (tempera paint... where do I find that?!) to a project that I really wanted to start but I guess that will have to wait. Sooooo, I am most likely going to make another bear because I promised my other sister that I would make her one with a crown. I have four sisters by the way AND a very demanding niece and nephew, so I'm going to be a pretty busy person since everyone wants a little bit of something! ;)

Hello all!

Welcome to Crafts by Debbie! All things here are and will be completely handmade by me!

I've always had a crafty side in me, but it wasn't until I was laid off in August 2009 that gave me an opportunity to actually explore my potential. Since I just graduated and had nothing else to do but look for jobs, it was the perfect time to learn a bit about what I thought was interesting and fun.

Currently, my hobbies consist only of, crochet. Specifically, I like amigurumi, which is a super cute Japanese art that involves crocheting in circles. Sad. I know, but it's the only thing I've managed to get a firm grasp on these past months. I do plan on expanding my skills though. I'm starting to look into clay/model/jewelry making and will eventually try anything else that piques my interest. I've tried sewing and that didn't go too well, but I do intend on giving it another try.

So yeah. That's me in a nutshell. Or my skills, really..

Now, although I would love to update this blog frequently, realistically speaking, due to my job, school/studying (I'll be starting my second bachelor's this summer which means I'll have even less time! *siiigh), sleeping, commuting and seeing my boyfriend/hanging out or spending time with family, the very little time that I have in-between will be dedicated to crafting and blogging. So, this blog will be probably be updated very, very sporadically. I will try my best to update it on a monthly basis though!

Thank you for reading!
