My first patterned felt doll. This was from Felt Friends from Japan by Naomi Tabatha.
Felt
dolls are really time consuming when made by hand. If I ever make
another felt doll, I think I would like to try it by machine. Hope you like it!!

hi! Love your felt fawn ~ so adorable! Just thought I'd let you know, I did try stitching them by machine, and it's a LOT faster. I can put one together in an hour. Just use your widest zigzag stitch, & place the edges of the felt right at the center line of the foot, so that no felt is couaght on the right side of the zigzag. Then, when stuffing them, stuff them very tight, to draw apart the stitches. This really helps it to look more hand-stitched, yet very even. Also, when going round the curves, lift the foot often to re-adjust for the curve, stitching fairly slowly. If you have a seam that will not be stuffed tightly (such as the back of Hana Hood's hood or her dress, I found out that hand-stitching will look better, as it seems I could not pull on either side of the felt enough to draw out the stitches enough to make them look right. I hope this helps out, & encourages you to make more of these awesome little felties!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the advice and comment! The fawn was really fun to make (but like all my other hobbies, it was super time consuming). I will definitely try using the machine next time. Oh and btw, I LOVE your bunnies - they came out so well!!
